Final Reflections

This project has been a rollercoaster. We started out having problems with our story and unsure of when we would film. This was very stressful, but after we got through filming it was a smooth ride. I am very happy that we finished all the components before the due date, and that we gave ourselves PLENTY of time to edit unlike past projects we have done.

We all love how our project turned out, and I am so relieved it is over. If there was something I could change, it would probably be the end clip of the film because we forgot to film a clip of Amber looking at what she had done (stabbing Sarah). We had to use a clip from another scene to put at the end. I think this clip fits well, but it could have been better. We also could have added more creative components to the website, but we tried to include some interesting features (behind the scenes vlog and downloadable posters).

Overall, I still think we did a great job and I am happy it is finally done!

Final Project

Wow! I can't believe we are finally done with the project! We definitely went through lots of problems in the beginning, but once we filmed we were very successful with time management and getting the project done. I am so proud of my group and what our end products are!

Starting to Edit and Project Updates

My goal each day is to edit at least 1 minute of the film. I have been following it so far, and I want to be done with editing Wednesday April 10th. This way I can fix anything with plenty of time, and I also need time to do my CCR. Joanne and Taylor have been working on the website, so we are almost done with it. All the websites we looked at were very simple, but we wanted to add other elements like the behind the scenes vlog, downloadable movie posters, and interactive cast and crew pages. I really like how the website is coming out. They are also going to work on the flyer so we get it out of the way.

Here is the link to the behind the scenes vlog Joanne made.

We also chose which doll poster we like the best and would use if the movie was actually going to be released on Netflix:

While editing I did not know how to turn the clips black and white, so I found a 19 second video on how to do it which was very helpful and efficient because it was so short. Here is the link to the video I watched. I didn't realize it was so simple to fix, because all I had to do was use an effect called Tint and apply it to the clips.

I also have to look up some good music to use for the montage scene, and I need to add the creepy sounds to when the doll disappears. I have creaky floorboards in my room, so I am going to record the sounds of them to put in the film. I think I am making really good progress on editing, and I can't wait until I finish!

Filming Day 2

We finally finished filming! I am so relieved to be done with filming and being able to start editing. The Starbucks scene went really well, and did not take very long. I think it will be a great scene to start with to show how Amber is alone. At first, I was unsure that the scene was necessary because it would be unimportant compared to the rest of the film, but Taylor helped me understand why we should probably put it in. It makes the audience begin to feel bad for her because she is sitting by herself and looks sad.

We had to make sure that Taylor wore the same clothes as she did yesterday so there would be no continuity errors. Here is a behind the scenes picture:

I have started to chronologically import the clips into Adobe Premiere Pro so it is easier to edit. I also have to color the clips black and white, and we want to find a way to make the blood red (with everything else black and white) in the final scene. I also have to look up some auditory elements like creaking, voicemail message beep, music, and I want to change the audio of the voicemail message so it sounds more realistic.

There is lots to still get done but I am confident that we will finish on time, and I am going to work on editing everyday so it gets done faster.

Filming Day 1

We started filming today and it is going very well. We started at 9 AM and worked until around 3 PM. At first, it took us a while to get in groove, so our first scene took a long time to film. After we got through it, we were much faster and efficient. We were very confused with our storyboard because we forgot to number the pages and put locations, so Joanne went through it and numbered everything and put the locations which was extremely helpful.

The camera battery also died, so instead of waiting around for it we used the time to created our bloody t-shirt for the final scene and recorded the voiceover for the voicemail message Amber hears in the beginning of the film. Joanne also came up with the idea of creating a behind the scenes vlog to put on our website for marketing purposes, so we filmed/took pictures of status updates and setting up scenes.

Here are some of the pictures from the first day of filming:

We filmed all the scenes at my house, and just have to film one other scene tomorrow. We decided instead of going to Panera to go to Starbucks because it has a better outside area to film in and is closer to our houses. At least the bulk of our filming is done, because we really need to start editing. The Starbucks scene is very short so it will not take us long to film.

Taylor and Joanne are going to work on the rest of the website, behind the scenes vlog, and start the flyer/postcard advertisement. I think we are making really good progress, and I want to edit at least 1 minute of the film everyday so we have plenty of time to make any changes and work on the other components, as well as the CCR.

Flyer Research

I am researching conventions and layouts that a film festival flyer has. On this website, I found helpful information on what a flyer typically has on it. Here is the information I found most helpful:

This website was very useful because it listed what specific information to include, and even added visual examples to make it even more clear.

I have also been looking at different layouts that I like so we have different options to choose from. Here are some layouts I like and some I didn't:

Postcard - front
I like the layout because it highlights the image and the subject. I don't like how there are a lot of different fonts because I think there are too many. The font choice for the title of the movie is very engaging and interesting.

I like the image because it is very evocative, but I don't like how the awards are on the front. I would have liked it better if they just left the director and title with the image.

I like the colors and text. I also like how they included a tagline from the film. I don't like the gray box at the bottom. If they had just left the picture normally without the gray or put that information on the back it would look better.

(Back of the first flyer) I like this layout because it is very easy to read. Everything is spaced out in a cohesive way. I also like the added touch of the QR code, and I think I want to include that in my flyer. I don't like the color of the flyer, or how small the contact information is.
